Robert was born on 24 AUG 1847 in Crosshill, Kirkmichael, the son of James McCreath and Janet Ferguson.
His wife was Harriet Muir Dunlop, who he married on 23 OCT 1873 in Kirkmichael. Their three known children were Jame (c1875-?), William Dunlop (1877-?) and Harriet Jessi (1881-1911).
